Comparison / Refection
Sanitation
· In Ancient Egypt there was no technology invented to protect people from harmful parasites, in places like drinking water, public facilities and food. The Egyptians would get very ill from the drinking water in the Nile river, as people would wash themselves in in water, crocodiles would live there, and people would dispose of their waste there. Whereas nowadays we have the technology available to automatically purify our water, so it is safe to drink. Nowadays we also bathe in our homes, where the wastewater and other disposals go straight underground to the sewers. This is a great thing because it stops the spread of diseases, and unhygienic waste.
Surgery/medicine
· Today the medical procedures are a lot safer, although the Ancient Egyptians where very clever with their methods. The Ancient Egyptians ways of dealing with burns and cut have helped us find a method that combined the best of both methods. The difference is that the Ancient Egyptians way just works a tad slower than our modern day version. They also used similar tools for surgery, such as knives, saws and forceps. The only differences are that the tools where slightly larger and made out of different materials.
Diet
· Both understood the importance of a healthy diet. Both also milked cows, goats and sheep, plowed for vegetables and hunted for meat.
Writings
· Ancient Egyptians wrote on papyrus paper made from the papyrus plant. Whereas we write on paper, cardboard, computers electronics. They also wrote with reed pens and stones, and we right with pens and pencils. They wrote in hieroglyphics, and we write in English using the alphabet, even though there are different ways to right, they are similar. They use symbols to represent letters, and so do we, and they make up words with the hieroglyphics, we do the same but in English.
School
· In Ancient Egypt being able to read or write was considered a privilege, which only a few people had the opportunity to do. However today, most children go to school. The Egyptians learned to write down things like Ancient Egypt Literature, e.g. stories, poems, historical and biographical texts, scientific treatises, mathematical and medical texts, whereas nowadays we only write down t everything that we learn and need to know or remember.
Age
· In Ancient Egypt 40 years of age was considered old. Unlike today in Egypt where the oldest is around the age of100.
Beer
· Unlike in Ancient Egypt it is uncommen for children do not drink beer. Whereas in Ancient Egypt they do!
Religion
· Both Ancient Egypt and nowadays pray. But unlike nowadays, in Ancient Egypt as no one understood what caused diseases, or how to cure them, Egyptian doctors believed evil spirits lurked in your body, to make you sick. Therefore they would pray to a god of healing. As they had strong beliefs about evil spirits.
Refection
We owe a lot to the Ancient Egyptians, as without them this world would be very different. It is very surprising how much we have in common. Even though it has been more than 7,500 years, there are still many similarities. Whether it is our medical equipment, schooling, farming, social order, or agriculture, the Egyptians have helped us out in one way or another. We have developed a lot since the Ancient Egyptians times, but it is all molded around what they created. I am very thankful that I live in this century because of the learning opportunities, there is a wider variety of choice. If the Egyptians didn’t exist, do you think that we would have all of this?
